Tell Everyone About Your Web Site!
Even the most beautifully designed, content-rich website will be useless if it is not marketed properly.
Optimisation (making your web pages “search engine friendly”) and Submission (telling the search engines about your web pages) to the important search engines are certainly both important, but more important still is to have a good marketing strategy in place - one that really drives traffic to your web site. This is particularly true for smaller businesses that often depend heavily on viral marketing, referrals and word-of-mouth for their business success.
Search engines are constantly “spidering” their way through all the publicly available web sites on the worldwide web - those web sites that they know about.
But if you’ve never submitted your web pages to search engines; and you don’t have partner sites that link TO you, then you’ll never appear in the search engine listings. And furthermore, if you’re not careful, you could inadvertently design your site to be “invisible” to the search engine spiders - by hiding the all-important content in image maps and frames for example - or by not taking care of your various index tags.
The good news is that good web site marketing doesn’t need to cost much - and by combining common sense with a simple in4m list of DOs and DON’Ts, you’ll already be halfway there.
